endings and beginnings

unexpected pear
A perfect spring day: sunshine, warmth, trees about to burst into bloom.
Sure knowledge haunts the edges of each thought:
three sets of parents,
three families,
three widening circles of friends,
mourn the death of a child, from Monday's bombing.
Prayers encompass them, but cannot measure grief.

Loss, birth. Pointless violence, promise of spring.
"There is a feeling that wants to be expressed," my 95-year-old student said yesterday. "If I had another 30 years, I might be able to express it."

If you haven't been to Open Studios for a while, you are in for a stunning day. There are so many new artists in the building. Paintings, stained glass, soap, upcycled furniture, knitting, weaving, quilts, clay, even model boats: you'll find it all at 122 Western Avenue.
For the graduate, perhaps

Find something wonderful for mother's day, graduation, or just for you this Saturday.

Tiny Worlds Class in Cambridge

My friend Mimi Kirchner is teaching a Tiny World class at Gather Here on April 13 and 14. Come join the fun! Take an old tea cup and a few scraps of wool. Add a peaceful afternoon, and make art with new friends.

Voila. Tiny worlds: Pin cushion art.

This class is suitable for anyone who can thread a needle.

You can see her wonderful Tiny World Pincushions (and order one for yourself) here.
