Summer Heat

Hot summer is upon us. Yesterday the heat drove me out of the house and into the dark of the movie theater. Today, with the fans blowing, I baked focaccia and muffins, while eating mangos and peaches.

Up in the hot studio, I've been mounting finished work. This piece is finally ready for the world, mounted on on a 12x12 canvas:

This piece is mounted but I think I will continue to work into it with acrylics:

I have been painting too but nothing to share now. Inventory tomorrow, I think. Meanwhile, another mango...

Summer Heat

Hot but not humid. I got outside to draw today. The heat makes me slow and dizzy. But I liked these women talking under the trees outside a local school.I've been thinking a lot about trees.

I've been lucky and awake at dawn a few times, able to paint while the house was quiet and cool.
Today's drawings were done on top of pages I used to wipe my brushes.

Tonight dinner at the Turkish Cultural Center in Boston to celebrate and remember the trip our children took to Turkey last month. Tomorrow teaching and then playing chaufeur for my daughter who has a summer camp job but no driver's license yet.

Quilt Show this Weekend

The Quilter's Connection hosts its 23rd annual quilt show this weekend at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown, MA. Here's a photo from last year - let's just say I'm still this gorgeous. This morning I helped set up the Boutique. An amazing array of items for sale, all hand-made. Colorful, decorative, functional. From pincushions to purses, garments to gorgeous art, you'll find something here. Plus they are raffling off this extraordinary quilt, made cooperatively by the guild members:

The quilts were just going up as I left. I saw amazing pieces - huge translucent pieces inspired in part by Chunghie Lee's pojagi pieces. Extraordinary pieces with syncopated rhythms and to-die for colors.

The show is open Friday through Sunday. Parking is ample and free. For hours and directions go here. I'll be in the boutique Sunday afternoon. Stop by and say hello.
